As you may remember I decorate my home heavily for the holidays and leave everything up until after New Year. After removing three Christmas trees, a loaded mantel, an entry table filled with Santas, hanging mistletoe, Christmas tea pots and towels, you can bet the house feels a little empty. Clean – but empty.
I’ve devised a little trick to wean myself off holiday decorating so I don’t have to go “cold turkey”. I realized my Christmas decorations included a number of snowman theme items. Since there’s snow on the ground in January where I live, it makes perfect sense to warm up the house a little with snowmen. I plan to have them keep me company until I can decorate with the reds and whites of Valentine’s Day.

A fleecy stacking snowman and a trio of wooden votive lanterns greet guests from the entry table.

A snowman teapot and pitcher take front and center on a bookshelf with snowmen bowls and a tin.

A snowman cookie jar stands guard in the kitchen.

This snowman contains a bottle of wine, perfect for sipping beside a winter fire.
If you’re not a snowman fan perhaps you have other wintery items that would be suitable this month. Themes to consider include snowflakes, cardinals, icicles, pine cones, mittens, sleds, hats, bare branches, ice skates, snow shoes, polar bears, penguins or holly.
