Today is all about remembering and honoring people who have given their lives in service to our country. It’s especially important to recognize and support the men and women who continue to risk their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Patriotism
Patriotism can be expressed in many ways. Seriously and with feeling you can show support for our country and our efforts abroad financially, by writing letters or by sending care packages. With a lighter touch but still with a genuine feeling, you can display “support our troops” ribbons and banners. Or you can even have your home reflect your patriotism by flaunting a touch of red, white and blue design.
Red, White, Blue
Just because those are the colors of our flag and SO representative of our country doesn’t mean you have to be literal in the use of the flag elements of stars and stripes. Introduce a touch of the colors working together for a serious look or use a more whimsical nod to our history and an Americana look. Here’s a brief wander through some fun items to use in your home every day, not just for the holiday.
This simple chair style and narrow blue and white stripes leaves itself wide open for various interpretations. It would be equally at home in a marine or nautical room as well as a red, white and blue Americana room. Pair it with pillow in wide red/white stripes or a big star to gently blend with your theme.
Or how about a little wall decor to introduce a touch of patriotism…….
Novelty plates, candles or even food all are fun for a party or just for a weekend bar-b-que.
Americana Room Decor
This very subtle interpretation of the red, white and blue theme doesn’t flaunt stars or stripes or flags. The colors are saturated true reds or blues. Balanced with some yellow and some quilt patterns, the room is so comfortable looking.
This person spruced up their china hutch display by pulling in red, white and blue items from around the house. A couple of red accessories, some cobalt glasses spread through all the white dishes and milk glass makes a cohesive look and will be enjoyed long past the holiday weekend.
Patriotism Outside
Your kids want to be part of the fun too and with this festive table, they won’t have to worry about spilling on your favorite holiday tablecloth!

A whole room in the theme of USA or red, white and blue may be more than you’re ready to embrace but hopefully you found a some inspiration to add a little touch here and there in your decor.
