The New Year always seems to inspire many of us to organize our homes. Maybe it’s the fact that the weather keeps many of inside so we have time to peruse our spaces, noticing what’s accumulated through the past year. Perhaps it’s because we’re looking ahead to 12 new pages on the calendar and wondering how the upcoming year will impact our lives and organizing our “stuff” helps us feel in control – at least of our surroundings. It might be that having just finished weeks of decorating and celebrating we’re ready for some quiet time and simplfying.
Get Organized
If you want to organize your home, for what ever reason, I hope today’s post provides some inpiration, ideas and tips to get you on your way. Be sure to check out each of the links for more detailed input:
1. Get Rid of Clutter! This is THE starting point for getting organized. Clutter eats up your space, hides your decorating and sucks your energy.
You can win the battle with clutter - start with the 10 tips noted in this past post. As you clear out closets, dump drawers and empty shelves, something’s got to go. It doesn’t make sense to just straighten things up and put it all back in the same place – then all you’ve organized is your clutter!
If you’ve faced clutter before, you know you need to commit to what to keep and what not to keep as you start clutter clearing – then you can zoom through the process instead of dragging through it. The result will be a more inviting and functional space.

2. Put Things in Their Place! After removing all the clutter, you need to organize what’s left. This isn’t a difficult task if you have a place for everything. Problems arise when you don’t have a place to store remaining items – then they just remain cluttter! It’s especially important to have appropriate and sufficient storage in a small room or you will remain overrun with “stuff.”
Check out ideas for small room storage that you can put to work – and, of course, adapt for larger rooms too! And no matter what the size of your space – look up! Overhead storage can free up floor space and make any space feel less cluttered, more open and accesssible.
3. Organize Creatively! Organizing doesn’t have to be drudery – it can actually become a creative outlet.
Check out these ideas for organizing creatively. While you’re storing and stashing and organizing, remember – it’s easier to find stuff when it’s where it belongs or you can see it.
