I’ve done many posts about odd, weird, ugly introductions to the world of home decor (you can browse those previous articles in the Furniture category in the sidebar).  I think it’s time to give fair exposure to the beautiful new pieces being created in all areas of home decor.

Home Decor Beauties

These retro chairs were inspired by cars of the 30′s and were designed by Samal Design (France); I think they would work beautifully as an accent chair in a modern or transitional style.

A modern interpretation of a rocking chair – it looks REALLY comfortable, though the price tag isn’t…..a mere $2500.

Bookshelf by Kenyon Yeh

Practical, surprising, and with a touch of whimsy, this bookshelf or magazine rack could tuck into a corner or narrow wall space.

Designed by Martin Gallagher Furniture.com, this piece is a perfect example of form and function – beautiful forms for a coffee table, but practical with moveable, tucked away seating.

A chest of drawers to fool the eye but perfect for a child’s room.  Whimsical, practical, and it would coordinate with any color scheme.  You could take the same fun idea with and refurbish an old chest using different knobs on each drawer.

Not for the traditionalist, these creative tables take billiards to a new level.  Is it a better level?

This innovative light is also a speaker; screw it in like a light bulb and have light and sound together!  What will they think of next?

The Newest in Art and Accessories

As you’ve probably noticed if you’ve read YDH for more than a month, I love my accessories.  These pretty vases designed by Studio Cave Canem (Czech Republic) caught my eye – I love the nature themes and the tilt of the opening.

More stunning accessories - simple lines and materials are the calling card of these very contemporary vases designed by DB Glassworks.

Art is always an evolving form of expression and artist Bradford Teasdale creates beautiful pieces like this in concrete!

This innovative candle has embedded wicks throughout.  You light the first wick and, as it burns, it will ignite other wicks (up to 5 might be going at once), creating an ever-changing ‘art’ piece.

Kitchen and Bath Design Innovations

There is some exciting design work being done in bathroom and kitchen fixtures.  This is my kind of faucet!  I can only imagine the cost, but the Luna faucet by Graff is stunning (part of a line inspired by the sun and moon).  The simplicity of that curve is just gorgeous.

From KWC, the Eve faucet is sleek and simple and……lighted!  Yes, the stream of water is lit so you don’t have to turn on the lights to get a glass of water.  Or, just because it’s cool.

Where space is an issue, try this folding faucet by Ritmonio (Italy).

Designed by a3studiomadrid and manufactured in Spain, this sleek sink is constructed of oak and available in several finishes.  It would be a great statement piece in a powder room.

Interior Innovation

The world of home decor design never stands still – people are always experimenting with new materials, finishes and structures.  Even if your design style is more traditional (or even an antique filled home), there are ways to incorporate the newest in design with the age of vintage pieces.  I’m continually amazed at the creativity in the industry and hope I stirred your interest a little as well.  Which innovation piqued your interest?
