No, there’s no rule about where to put the drapery rod. The ‘normal’ height of most ready made curtains is designed to be just above a window frame. Most windows have 18-24″ between the top of the window frame and the 8′ ceiling. I also love the elegant and lush look of extra long draperies going to the ceiling but you’ll likely have to do some customizing to get the length right.

Hi, I absolutely love your site, I feel like I have come across a treasure and want to share it with everyone. I have a question about window treatments. I like the look of drapes going to the ceiling and touching the floor but in my sewing room there is a space of 2 ft. from the top of window and edge of the ceiling. Is there a rule about how high I should hang the drapes in comparison to the window. Thanks Sarcie
