Valentine’s Day is just two weeks away!  This year instead of single use paper decorations, consider home accessories with heart – ones you can use all year ’round!  Show your home and family a little love through your decorating.  This post is filled with ideas to get your heart-felt decorating started.

Heart to Heart

First, let me assure you that using hearts in your decorating doesn’t have to lead to an overly sweet or kitschy decorating style.  You can put your own twist on a room when using heart motifs.   See what I mean by studying the two very different bedrooms below - both use an abundance of heart motifs but with very different results.

The photo above uses lots of red, the traditional heart color, and heart motifs abound in this room.  Check them out in the base of the lamp, the pulls on the nightstand and desk drawers, the toss pillows on the bed, the shape of the ottomans at the bottom edge of the photo, and, of course, those white ”polka dots” on the fabric are actually lots of little white hearts .

The room above also sports a generous use of hearts.  The color palette gives a whole different feel to this room, however, one that is much less traditional.  The colors inject a contemporary vibe even though traditional heart shapes are used 19 times as drawer pulls and twice as lamp bases.

You can show a whole lotta love to your walls when decorating with heart.  The metal wall art (top) presents an interesting repeat of heart motifs.  Cut hearts and other simple shapes, such as the birds birds shown in the second photo, from a variety of scrapbook paper and add a frame for a fun and love-ly piece.  Animal print wall decals might be perfect for showing your love of animals – or your wild side.  Intricate cut paper hearts make an appealing framed pair.

These felt ornament hearts can help spread the love throughout your home. Hang them on a door or drawer knob, add several to a decorative wreath,  scatter a few on a coffee or side table,  run a ribbon through the loop and use the heart as a curtain tie-back or a napkin ring.
