I love the chance to “play” designer and over at Pewter + Sage, she’s hosting another ‘design’ party.  The way this works is she has picked 4 holiday pillows and each participant is to create a holiday room around the pillow of their choice and then share it with readers.  The enjoyment of this kind of inspiration board is that it’s all for fun, price is no object, and we all have the opportunity to share and build the design blogging community.  There were some pretty creative rooms last time, so it’s worth a minute to check out some of the other entries.

Without further ado, here are the 4 pillows to choose from and my inspiration board.

To me the top two pillows speak to a comfortable, homespun Christmas filled with country touches, bare branches & pinecones.  The next two pillows are graphic, simple and can be more suited to a modern decor.  That’s where I’m going.  My imaginary room is filled with modern touches and dramatic plays of color.

My room started with this chair – I LOVE the styling of this chair so I envision a sitting room with 4 of these chairs around the round leather ottoman and anchored by this fabulous square rug.  Of course, since it’s the holidays, I needed a tree to coordinate with the golden tones in the rug, a wreath that plays on the reds of the chair and those chunky candlesticks.  I like the very modern chandelier that would hang above the ottoman and echo the shape.  Here’s where I would retreat with a few girlfriends, a glass of wine, feet propped on the ottoman and talk the night away.

My holiday room - all around a pillow.

Products used in this room are:   chair by Vivienne Tam for Rowe Furniture; Ikea Bjursta chest; ModernRugs.com Blossoms rug; Decker ottoman -ebay; Black Stripe pendant lamp from Lamps Plus; Taboret Table from Burke Decor; Arctic Wonderland wreath and Dover candlesticks from Grandin Road.  And of course, the pillow that started it all is from Olive’s ETSY store.

If any of you want to try your hand at this fun ‘party’, try polyvore as a simple way to build a room.  Thanks for stopping by my sitting room. :) 1signature
