A fireplace draws people together during the winter months, inviting them to relax and chat, play a game, curl up with a good book or snooze on the sofa. In fact, they are so popular that some folks without fireplaces try to recreate the ambiance with wallpaper murals.

I can understand gravitating to the light, the warmth, the dancing flames of a fireplace – what I can’t understand is the attraction of a flat, static picture of a fireplace wallpapered to a wall! You heard me right – a fireplace wallpapered to a wall.
Wallpaper fireplace murals are available in a variety of styles. including a red brick style, a white traditional style with fluted columns or a country fireplace complete with a cat. Prices range from just under $100 to almost $250 for these versions.

Surf the Internet and you’ll find other fireplace murals. Although some are more appealing than others, I still give them all a thumbs down. I just can’t imagine them looking good in a room - unless it’s a child’s playhouse where I think a fireplace mural might be great fun!

I agree with Cindy on this one. A wallpaper fireplace is a poor substitute for the real thing. I guess a case could be made for the fact that it doesn’t take up any room….but if you really want a fireplace so badly that you resort to wallpaper, maybe you should rethink your room and give up something else so you have space for the fireplace. There are so many slim versions, electric versions, zero clearance versions that having a fireplace can be a reality for any home.
How about this? I’ll see your fireplace wallpaper and raise you a fire ember chair, complete with flaming seat! Oh my goodness!
