Over the past few weeks we’ve explored the use of some great decorating patterns including polka dots, stripes and plaids. Today florals take center stage.
Green Thumb Not Required
You don’t need a green thumb to successfully live with floral prints and there’s no watering or fertilizing necessary either. All you need is an interest in florals, a mix of scale and some color coordination.
Fabulous floral prints flourish in home decor items including wallpaper, fabric, art, table decor, rugs, lighting and accessories. As a result, you can find something floral for any room in your home. Take a look at how floral prints are incorporated into these rooms:

A neutral sofa provides the perfect backdrop for fabulous floral print toss pillows and neutral drapes are edged in the same fabric, spreading the print around the room. The wall color is pulled from a mid-hue blue in the pillow print for a soothing background that highlights print wall decor while a lighter blue from the floral print is used on the back of the chairs seen behind the sofa. Live flowers spark a coffee table and sofa table/desk behind the sofa.

A wonderful twining vine print infuses this dining room with fun and flair. Everything else is neutral, leaving the wallpaper print to provide the room’s punch. Fresh flowers bridge the furniture and the print.

Floral prints shine often in bedrooms. In the first and third photos the bed linens sport the major print in the room although in photo #1 the oversized print is carried up onto the valance and in photo #3 a floral print also covers the floor. In the center photo floral is found on the window coverings and the bed pillows.

This bathroom plays up a large floral wallpaper and highlights it with a floral branch in the corner of the bathtub, a plant on the tub deck and a flower arrangement on the vanity. Plain white plays a supporting role beautifully.
Blooming Ideas
I personally prefer florals in small touches rather than full rooms or large expanses. If you’re like me, consider letting a flower bloom here or there on an accessory. Consider items such as these:

A centerpiece isn’t the only way to add florals to your dining table! Turn your table top into a garden with floral dishes, serving pieces, placemats, napkins, runners, cups, teapots and more!

Floral prints flourish on furniture including upholstered pieces like a tuffet (center), sofa, love seat, or chair and on case goods like the chest and dresser (top and bottom photos), tables, consoles, trunks, armoires and dressers.

Deck the walls with a floral clock and wall art – or with floral fine art, photographs or hanging tapestries.
And there’s so much more…floral draperies, picture frames, mirrors, vases…if you want it, you can probably find it in floral! Or, instead of spending your money on floral home decorating items, you can save it in a floral piggy bank! Yet another floral option.

wow these are some great ideas for home decorations, beautiful pictures
Love the flowers! But I personally like the idea of using flowers only in decorating items, like cushions, wall art, mats, and other details, so that the room can be transformed from a spring room into a fall living room, if I decide I have enough of flowers.
Right now my whole room is flowers, I decided to change it since it hadn´t been my room in the past four years. Would love to share the before and after.
I’m like you – I prefer the florals in my home to be easily changeable
items instead of more permanent things like wallpaper, upholstery or
lighting. And, like you, I like changing things out seasonally.
We would love to see your before/after photos of your flower room – simply
attach jpgs to an email addressed to solutions@yourdecoratinghotline.com.
In the email give some background to your “before” situation and what you
did to remedy it and transform your room to an “after.” Our readers love
seeing before/after photos and hearing of the challenges and solutions -
and so do we!
Thanks for your input. I look forward to hearing from you again and
seeing your photos.
I LOVE your blog!! The photos are crisp, to date and most of all USEFUL! Personally, I adore florals as they coordinate things so well. I use “some” in every room….does that make me a romantic? Again, your ideas rock. franki
