Cindy and I had a difference of opinion about the value of using slipcovers (read about it here). I came down firmly on the side of “no way, no how” because to me they always appear so shapeless and boring and wrinkled/crumpled. Cindy couldn’t leave the idea alone and explored it further, extolling the virtues of slipcovers here. While I may not be totally ready to jump on the slipcover bandwagon, I’m thinkin’…….
Slipcovers Revisited
Look what I found! Slipcovers with some style. With good fit. With color and panache.
I’m in love with the modern graphic design of these slipcovers made by BEMZ, specifically for Ikea pieces. As you know, Ikea pieces are often pretty plain jane in the drama department. The price point is great, the style quotient is decent, but the color selections….not so much.
These slipcovers appear to be perfectly tailored (resolving my main complaint about the messiness of slipcovers) and really help jazz up a chair, sofa or pillow and make it a focal point in your room. If you’re an Ikea shopper, it may be time to expand your style options! BEMZ.com is an interactive site – you pick the furniture profile you own or want to own, click on the fabric you like and voila….you can see what it will look like – prices adjust depending upon the fabric choice.
I Can Change my Mind
Design is always evolving and there are always new resources and advances – in every arena of home decor. Keeping an open mind in design is critical.
So I’m here to say, “I can change my mind”. I can remain flexible and when presented with new information, revise a pretty strongly held opinion. Are you inspired to try a colorful slipcover? Are you ready to change your conservative Ikea furniture into furniture with pizzazz? Can you adapt your opinion?

There’s always a place for affordable, well designed pieces to work alongside the family heirlooms or priceless antiques. The art is in making them “play nice”. And surely if designers in AD are doin’ it, we can too!!
Thanks for the info! IKEA is “something” – I read about designers in “Architectural Digest” using IKEA now.
