Today we have a guest post from Joanna Salinas at Design Shuffle.  It’s about one of my my favorite topics – color.  Joanna has come up with some great ideas and ways to use accent color.

Where to Use Accent Color

Adding a dollop of color to your space is like adding a dollop of whipped cream to a dessert.  It’s that extra touch that turns something from special to spectacular.   A splash of color, a pop of color, whatever you want to call these colorful accents – adding color enlivens any space in your home. Color is a main inspiration for many interior design ideas.

Paint is a quick and inexpensive way to add a little (or a lot) of color to a space. Love the bright yellow nook.

Brightly colored furniture can add that dollop of color to a space. A single piece of painted furniture or a pair of colorful chairs is enough to create an impact. Add these to your den design!

The red chandelier is like a cherry on top of a sundae.  The room would be gorgeous without it, but it is so much more with it.  Just two bold dollops of red change the look and feeling of the entire room.

Colorful accessories like lamps, pillows and art are great ways to add dollops of color in your room.  This predominately white space balances the intense colors of the accessories.

Add color to your kitchen or dining room with a colorful chair.  These chairs from Kartell are light enough to move around and the translucent color is colorful without being overwhelming.  Inspire any living room design ideas?

A few spots of pink and red add fun and dimension to this cool toned room.  Notice the pink on the sofa and the red shade on the chandelier.

Throws and linens are smart ways to add a dollop of color to a bedroom.  Find a color that contrasts with the existing bedroom colors to complement the room’s overall palette.

White and stainless kitchens continue to be popular choices.  Add dollops of color in stools and unexpected places like light fixtures.  Yummy!
