In my house bathroom waste baskets have always been utilitarian, unseen work horses tucked inside a cupboard under the sink. This doesn’t work in my new powder room, however, as the small corner sink cabinet has a full center shelf – which is lovely for storage but lousy for holding a full size waste basket. So I started looking for a waste basket I could live with on display – and I was incredibly surprised at the selection!
Decorative Waste Baskets
Little did I know that no matter what your style, color, theme or desired material there is a waste basket just waiting to be discovered! Who knew there were so many? And such variety? And in such a broad price range? I haven’t made my final selection yet but here are a few that caught my eye while shopping. Maybe you’ll find something to inspire you to change out your plain utilitarian basket for something a bit more decorative too.

Waste Not Want Not
Looking at the variety of styles, colors and materials available in waste baskets started me thinking about things I already have that might serve as a waste basket: a large woven basket, a ceramic pot (a solution I’m leaning toward), a big tin to which I could decoupage fabric or glue sheet cork, an unfinished wooden cube that could be stained or painted.
There are lots of options to fill the simple need for a waste basket. What’s your solution?

Hi Franki
I think people wish they changed for the seasons more often than they really do. I’m one of them. My changes revolve around seasonal mantel and table vignette changes. I’m thinking it might be time to add seasonal pillows to the mix too. Your wastebasket makeover sounds easy and cool.
Loved the wastebasket displays. I just spray painted an old one with metallic gold inside and out and then covered the outside with a decorative (butterflies on metallic gold branches) wrapping paper….I like to change things with the seasons…do people still do that??
