1- DIY mark

I have a metal candle lamp stand that spent the summer on the covered patio, glowing through summer nights as we lounged.  Now I’ve decorated it with fall foliage and seasonal colors and put it to work lighting the way to the front door for guests.

Today I’m sharing the easy step-by-step process I used to decorate my lamp.  You can use the same process to decorate porch pillars, mail box posts, stair balusters, bird house posts, and other verticals – no lamps needed!

 Step – By – Step

Start with a vertical of your choice – I used a metal stand with three candle lamps.

Wrap a garland of fall leaves around the vertical support.

Wire clusters of cat tails to the post – twist ties make it easy!  Then unfurl a grapevine garland and let it twist from the top down to the base of the post.

If you’re not using candles then skip this step.  If you are using a candle, pair it with a ring that coordinates color-wise.

Place the candle and ring inside a lamp.

By adding pumpkins to the lamp base and a few cobwebs to the door my guests can’t miss the entry – or the fact that it’s Halloween.

After Halloween I’ll remove the jack-o-lanterns and cobwebs and perhaps tie some Indian corn to the post - then  I’ll be good to go for Thanksgiving.

Adapt It

Look past the candle lamp stand and figure out how you can adapt this easy fall decorative layering.  I’d love to see photos from someone who’s used it on porch posts or staircase balusters!  Have fun and inspire us with your project – email photos to solutions@yourdecoratinghotline.com.
