Trees are a major part of my Christmas decorating. So now that I’ve made my decison about a Live vs. Artificial Christmas Tree and I’ve gathered my lights, ornaments, garland and picks and I’ve changed up my holiday decorating plans because of a recent move…What’s the result? Take a look for yourself…and be sure to read about our tree ornament contest at the end of the post.
Master Bedroom

Each foot of this tree is covered with approximately 100 lights - a total of 900 lights.

Glass and brass ornaments as well as pearl and ribbon garlands complete the decor.
This 9 foot artificial tree glistens in my master bedroom. First, approximately 900 white lights were wrapped down the branches. Then I placed a dozen large angels around the tree, filled in to the back of the branches with clear glass globes and placed several dozen blown glass ornaments near the tips so their details could easily be seen. A collection of brass ornaments add a bit of gold amongst the clear glass ornaments and frosted icicles drip from select branch tips. A dozen green, silver and gold picks were placed above each large angel and finally a pearl garland was strung around the tree and through each angels’ hands. A second garland of wired, two-sided ivory and gold ribbon was twisted and draped around the tree as the final touch.
Dining Room Tree

Sheer fabric works as a garland and gold bead floral branches top the tree while butterflies on thin wire seem to take flight.

Large poinsettia blossoms clip to branch tips.
Living Room Tree

A 15' tree dominates the great room as nutcracker soldiers stand guard.

A closer look shows a mix of ornaments, ribbon garland and metallic streamser.
My husband and I tromped into the national forest (with our permit and saw in hand!), cut down, carried out, trucked home and then installed this whopping 15 foot Ponderosa Pine in our living room. It was no small task! Luckily the forest trail was icy and snowy so we could pull the tree along it instead of carrying it all the way to our truck. Once home, a 12 foot ladder was barely tall enough to enable my 6 foot husband to get the star on the top and the multi-colored lights around the top portion of the tree. We placed large 8″ globe ornaments first and then followed with dozens and dozens and dozens of medium to small ornaments. A Ponderosa has very long needles and the inside of the tree is mostly branches so it was especially important to hang ornaments throughout the “inside” of the tree. Wired ribbon circles the tree and long wired streamers curl from the top to the bottom branches.
Share Your Decorations and Win
I’d love to see your Christmas tree and some of your ornaments. In fact, if you attach a photograph of one of your favorite tree ornaments to an email telling us why the ornament is special to you (send it to solutions@YourDecoratingHotline.com) you could win a 16″ X 16″ French burlap pillow slip (value $31) provided by Michelle at Petite Coterie, ETSY store.

Win this French burlap pillow by sharing a photo of a favorite tree ornament.
Each attached tree ornament photo and comment you send to us enters your name in the pillow slip drawing – and you’ve got until Dec. 22 to send as many entries as you like. We’ll share some of the entries in posts throughout December and then randomly select the winner from the pool of entries and announce the winner’s name in our Dec. 24th post. Break out your camera and send us a photo today…and one tomorrow…and one the day after that…..

Hi Cindy,
I just read your blog and was blown away by your beautiful trees! I
love the copper colored decorations with the butterflies. The colors
are amazing and is so decadent looking. How long did each one take to
decorate? I love the cut tree and was happy that your efforts were
rewarded with such a stunning tree. You home is so lovely on its own
but the trees just make it sparkle and shimmer! I also love how each
tree has its own distinct look and feel.
