Here we are in the dog days of August, middle of summer (from what I understand….it’s a little show showing up in Seattle) and it might be a little hard to get excited about decorating your home. The kids are on school vacation, it’s too hot to think about choosing a new bedroom color, you’ve got a weekend bar-b-que to plan…..all good reasons to postpone changing anything inside.
However, if you’re at all like me (and I suspect most of you are), your subconscious is still working. As you walk through a room, your eyes pick out the things you’re not happy with. As you go to bed at night, you’re reminded you don’t love the bedding. As you are playing a game with the kids, you notice the furniture arrangement isn’t really working.
As fall approaches and your attention is more focused on inside the house, you’ll find yourself itching to tackle one or all of the things that have bugged you all summer. You’ll stew and fret. You’ll haunt the furniture and paint stores. You’ll search online for inspiration room photos.

One of the most frequent questions we receive from readers is about color. How to match it, when to match it, where/when to use an accent wall, what colors work together well, etc. When you hit that wall of indecision about choosing or working with color in your home, YDH has a couple of options for you.
We have a very comprehensive, very helpful e-book (available by download) that will answer all your questions. How to Successfully Use Color in Home Decorating uses graphics, photos and detailed descriptions to guide you through every aspect of analyzing, selecting and applying color in a single room or your whole house.
A bargain at only $14.95, this book will help you get over your jitters and insecurity about selecting color. It describes and gives you tools to identify the undertone of a color which is often critical when mixing tones of a color.
