1 -style markAs I’ve written about before, using a motif is an easy way to make your home feel cohesive(you can read my article about motif decor here).  You repeat the motif in various formats around the home and it helps tie together other disparate elements like color or size or style.  Currently a hot trend is decorating with birds – in all shapes, sizes and finishes.  So I did a little online wandering and found some excellent examples of using a bird motif.  (Much more appealing than the antler/animal head motif I wrote about a couple weeks ago, don’t you think?)

Is That a Tweet I Hear?

Cindy and I aren’t particularly into the electronic tweets, but these decor tweety birds certainly have more appeal.

Birds on wallpaper, framed art, on the pillow and as carved dimensional art pieces.  This makes a great mixture of motif items and uses an interesting mix of colors and textures to reinforce the statement.

This is the tip of the iceberg and is meant to introduce you to the trend – then you can shop the myriad of sources for the bird items that catch your eye.  Let your home soar with new inspiration as your ideas take wing.  Okay, I know it’s a lot, but I couldn’t resist!

Are Birds Your Thing?

As a motif, birds lend themselves to a variety of styles and can add a pop of color to a neutral space.  They can be whimsical, picture perfect, or rough and hand carved.  The motif then seems to logically direct you to use lots of other natural elements like branches, stones, rattan, woven blinds,  jute rugs, etc.  If it doesn’t appeal to you as a motif that you want to repeat throughout your home, just add a piece here and there to enjoy the trend (that usually means there are LOTS of choices) and when this too passes, you aren’t left with so many birds to sell in your garage sale.
