One of my fondest childhood memories was breakfast at my Grandma’s house in California. Early each morning I’d pick fresh oranges from the backyard orchard and help her make a pitcher of fresh squeezed orange juice. Then I’d crawl into the back corner of the banquette built under the corner kitchen window and enjoy fresh juice and hot oatmeal. The breakfast was delicious and the banquette was fun, welcoming and comfy!
Bountiful Banquettes
Since then I’ve always loved banquettes. Even today if there’s an option in a restaurant I’ll pick a booth or a banquette over a chair anytime. My current kitchen/dining area doesn’t lend itself to a banquette but I still love them. Banquettes save space, offer comfort and come in a wide variety of styles and designs. There’s a bountiful selection of banquettes – here are just a few you too may find appealing:
This blue curved banquette helps seat maximum people in a small space and allows the round table to snug up easily to the diners for a casual meal.
This large blue banquette fills the corner and makes a contemporary statement.
Yet another blue banquette but this one offers a traditional style.
A casual banquette helps separate the dining area from the kitchen.

The banquette, color, curvy iron furniture, and cafe curtains create a romantic dining area.
A window seat or a banquette – it’s both!
The banquette adds softness to the dining area and helps save space in the small room.
The elegant curve and low back of the banquette are perfect with the round glass pedestal table.
Striped back cushions and leather seats of the banquette tie in perfectly with the traditional decor of the space.
In this kitchen the banquette fills the corner with comfort.
This banquette setting flaunts French flair.
Welcoming you to sit and relax this generous banquette ties directly to the kitchen.
The long, narrow banquette suits the sleek contemporary feel of the kitchen.
The extra tall back of the banquette adds softness to the kitchen space.
I just couldn’t resist ending this tour de banquettes with this updated retro and red banquette. What fun!

I’ve always loved banquettes, but the best I have in my house is a padded seat in my entrance. I have a fantastic bench in my summer house which you could call a banquette because it has a back. It is shown in my most recent post. I particularly love rounded ones that fit into bay windows. Most banquettes are space savers and add an inviting touch to rooms. I recently had to research a variety of banquette styles for a client but ended up using chairs. I now have all these ideas in my head. I seem to be connecting to the posts on YDH.
I love my kitchen banquette…window seats next.
