2009 has been a very exciting year for me – a year of new beginnings in many ways. My husband and I moved from Las Vegas to small town Kingman, AZ. We went from unemployed to both having fulfilling jobs. However, I found that I was missing my connection to design and to helping people make their homes better, so I was motivated to start this blog 6 months ago. What a simple sentence to encompass all that it took to get to this point. There was a much steeper technical learning curve than I expected, but here I am, ready to jump into 2010.
The addition of my friend Cindy into the mix has been a blessing and strengthens the blog in many ways. Her design experiences have been different from mine so she brings a different perspective; she comes from a marketing background which will help the blog grow; she’s full of enthusiasm and ideas that you’ll find engaging all next year.
As 2009 draws to a close, it’s the logical time for Year End lists – everyone does them. Best movies, worst celebrity break-ups, sportsman of the year, song of the year, color of the year, etc. From over 130 posts, I’ll give you Best Blog Posts of 2009……(all in one list in case you missed any of them when originally posted).
BEST POSTS FROM 2009
This post from July takes you step by step through how to accessorize a side table.
Or click through to this great post about accessorizing a pot shelf / ledge that explains all the factors to consider when making a display. It’s followed by this step by step tutorial.
Wrapping up the accessorizing posts, I wrote a pretty comprehensive series starting with wall decor (and art placement), displaying collections and personal treasures, using plants in your displays, effective lighting and finally the use of color with your accessories.
There were many reader requests for help with their design dilemmas, some of which were covered in the blog. A couple of my favorites were from Heather about an awkwardly shaped living room and from Sue and Cindy who wanted advice about their kitchens.
In addition to helping readers solve their design dilemmas, we endeavor to provide tips and how-tos on a variety of topics – all with the goal of helping you create a beautiful home. Step by step directions for a simple vase floral arrangement are provided in this post.
As we came to the end of the year, our focus was on the holidays and we offered some really great tips about decorating your home both inside and out. Cindy’s hubby does an amazing thing with the outdoor lights and I shared my struggles with creating the right mantel decor.
There are lots more posts with valuable information so feel free to use the search field at the top of the page or use the category list in the sidebar to help find topics of particular interest to you.
By the way, this post is linking to Inspired Room’s Best of 2009 gathering so if you want a take on other blogger’s “best of”, be sure to visit.
